The Sky is Falling: Stories of Asteroid and Comet Collisions with Earth
In recognition of the anniversary of the 2007 Carancas impact in Peru (the last time an asteroid struck Earth forming an impact crater) and to honor a group of special guests, current and former Fulbright recipients who are now in Georgia, Fernbank Science Center will present a special evening filled with asteroid and comet smash-ups on Friday, September 13, 2019. At 7 p.m., Fernbank Science Center planetary geologist Scott Harris will host a multi-media planetarium presentation The Sky is Falling: Stories of Asteroid and Comet Collisions with Earth. This will be followed at 8 p.m. by the fulldome planetarium show Impact! Encounters with Asteroids, Meteors, and Comets.
One ticket per person is good for the entire evening. General admission-$7.00, Students and Senior tickets-$5.00. Online discount tickets will be honored.
If the sky is clear, the observatory will be open that evening. Dr. Harris will continue the fun with impact demonstrations on the roof while you stand in line to view Saturn through our 36” telescope.
